Ncik Heidfeld is expected to be given a new contract to stay with the BMW Sauber team beyond the 2007 season according to Peter Sauber, one of the founders of the team. Although no longer based at the Hinwil site, he remains a consultant to the BMW team.
“The extension of Nick’s contract is, in my opinion, only a formality,” Sauber explained. “With his recent achievements in mind, we must have Nick continuing with us.”
Former driver Hans-Joachim Stuck also has a high opinion of Heidfeld and hinted that he is expecting the German driver to do well this weekend. “Nick likes Monaco – you should not count anything out!”
Heidfeld himself agrees and is hopeful of a good finish at Monaco. “With our own performance alone, we are not quite ready to win – but anything can happen here.”
