Lewis Hamilton dominated the second Thursday practice session in Monte Carlo, topping the timesheets for the majority of the hour. Rosberg was the only driver to really challenge Hamilton, knocking him off the top spot when he switched to soft tyres halfway through the session, before Hamilton followed suit and knocked four tenths off Rosberg s best time 10 minutes later.
The Ferrari s of Raikkonen and Massa continue to look strong with the pair having the third and fourth fastest times respectively, just ahead of the second McLaren of Heikki Kovalainen.
Both Renaults were bizarrely involved in almost identical crashes at Sainte Devote. Nelson Piquet spun into the barriers and damaged his rear wing before team-mate Alonso lost control at the same point 12 minutes later, damaging his wing and suspension. Alonso was the luckier of the two, managing to drag his Renault back to the pits. Unfortunately on his trip to the pits, his car strew debris across the track causing the session to be red flagged for four minutes whilst the marshals cleaned the track up.
Trulli and Sutil also tagged the track walls. Jarno Trulli s Toyota was scraped down the wall on the exit of the Swimming Pool after he lost a fight with some of the rough kerbs in the area. In the final few minutes of the session, Adrian Sutil lost his front wing on the Rascasse guard rail.
