Giancarlo Fisichella has stated that if either himself or Kovalianen opens out an early advantage in the 2007 season, he expects Renault to make them lead driver for the team.
For the past two seasons, Fisichella has had to play second fiddle to world champion Fernando Alonso – although Alonso was usually clearly quicker than Fisichella.
“The important this is to have a good start to the season and always be in the points,” Fisichella said. “They we’ll see if Renault decide to focus on one driver for the championship. That’s how it ias been the last two seasons and it worked. However, for an infinite number of rasons, I wasn’t the chosen one. After three or four races, if Heikki or I are in a significantly better position than the other, Renault will make the decision.”
