Ferrari extend Massa’s contract

Ferrari have extended Felipe Massa s contract for another 3 years ensuring the Brazilian will stay with the team until the end of the 2010 season. The extension to his contract ends speculation that current world champion Fernando Alonso might be headed for the scarlet-clad team.

Massa has won three races this season and is currently fourth in the drivers championship standings. The final race of the season in Brazil is Massa s home race and one where he has performed well in the past.

Although the link with Ferrari has now been severed, there are still many rumours surrounding Alonso s future circulating. The relationships between the Spaniard and his boss, Ron Dennis, and team-mate, Lewis Hamilton, are said to be very strained and no-one would be surprised to see the contract between McLaren and Alonso terminated.

With Ferrari out of the picture, the likeliest destination for Alonso should he leave McLaren is Renault the French manufacturer have yet to name their driver line-up for the 2008 season and Briatore has recently confirmed that he would be happy to have Alonso back in the team.
