F1 helmet painter Sid Mosca dies

Sid Mosca, a legendary painter of F1 helmets has died.

The 74-year-old Brazilian, who customised the designs of famous F1 drivers including Ayrton Senna, Mika Hakkinen and Michael Schumacher, died in hospital on Wednesday of cancer. All designs made by the designer were marked with the signature “Painted by Sid – Brasil.” According to O Globo, famous drivers who have had their helmets painted by Mosca include Bruno Senna, Nelson Piquet, Felipe Massa, Rubens Barrichello and Emerson Fittipaldi.

He will be buried in his native Sao Paulo.

“I am sorry to hear that we lost the great Sid Mosca,” Rubens Barrichello commented on his Twitter feed. ” He painted my very first helmet. We will miss you my friend.”
