Durango and Epsilon Euskadi to miss out on 2011

Hopeful F1 outfits Durango and Epsilon Euskadi will not race in 2011 after the FIA decided not to add to the current grid this afternoon.

The World Motor Sport Council is meeting in Paris today, and released a statement saying that none of the applicants were suitable to constitute a 13th team.

“Following the press release of 19 March 2010 calling for expressions of interest to participate in the 2011 and 2012 seasons of the FIA Formula One World Championship, a number of interested parties expressed their interest,” said the statement.

“It was considered that none of the candidates met the requirements to be granted an entry into the championship.

“Consequently, the allocation of the 13th team will not be granted.”

The news will disappoint 1997 world champion Jacques Villeneuve, who was thought to have been heavily involved with Durango’s bid.
