Dennis unimpressed with GP2 field

Ron Dennis has said he does not expect any of the current GP2 field to turn into Formula 1 stars. Dennis feels that the ability within the current field does not match that of the past two years, which had the likes of Lewis Hamilton, Nico Rosberg and Heikki Kovalainen, all of whom have moved into the Formula One arena.

“I don’t think you should take anything away from anyone who has won a race,” Dennis said, “But I don’t feel it is a particularly competitive field this year.”

Dennis predicts that the current GP2 leaders Timo Glock and Bruno Senna will continue with their form and the championship will be fought out between the two of them. “Senna and Glock should probably share the races out between them,” he explained. “I cannot see any young talent coming out of the category this year.”

Senna has a tendancy to be compared to his uncle, the late Ayrton Senna, and Dennis believes that people should look away from the surname and judge him on merit alone. “As a race winner, I wish him well, but I don’t think one should put too much emphasis on people’s names. People should be measures on their own achievements and not on their family name.”
