Bridgestone to leave F1

Japanese Formula One tyre supplier Bridgestone have announced that 2010 will be the last season that they supply the teams with tyres. Bridgestone have supplied tyres to the sport for the past 12 years since 2007 and have been the sole supplier since 2008 when Michelin left F1.

Bridgestone motor sport director Hiroshi Yasukawa explained that the decision to leave F1 was based on a need to redirect resources towards other innovative technologies.

Bridgestone will continue to supply tyres to other series such as GP2, GP2 Asia and MotoGP until at least 2011. It is currently unknown as to which companies are in the running to be suppliers of tyres to F1 from 2011 onwards.
