Bridgestone confident about Fuji

Despite being unable to test their rubber at the Fuji circuit, Bridgestone are confident that the Formula 1 teams will enjoy a trouble-free time with their tyres at the Japanese Grand Prix.

It is the first time in 30 years that the Formula 1 circus will have visited the Japanese track. The circuit has changed somewhat in the meantime and Bridgestone are happy that their tyres will work well.

“From a compound point of view, we do not expect problems with wear as the surface is relatively smooth,” Hirohide Hamashima, Director of Bridgestone Motorsport Tyre Development explained. “We could, however, see some graining on the front left tyres especially from the 100R corner but we don t believe it will be severe.”

Bridgestone isn t new to the Fuji circuit they provide tyres for other racing categories, and they believe that this experience has helped them in preparing for the Formula 1 race.

“We have learnt a lot from raving at Fuji over the years,” Hamashima continued. “By combining this knowledge with simulation data, we have been able to predict the need for the medium and soft tyres from our 2007 range. We are confident that these tyres will work well and should produce some good racing.”
