Brawn: 2013 Schumacher decision due soon

Mercedes boss Ross Brawn has revealed that Schumacher’s future with the team beyond this season will be decided within the next month and a half.

The German driver’s contract is up at the end of the season. Although he has put in some strong performances, he has suffered from a spate of technical failures and incidents.

“We will make a decision this summer,” Brawn said. “We know it is coming and we have to make a decision soon. I think in the next six weeks or so we will have to think about what we want to do next year.”

Scottish driver Paul di Resta – who currently drives for Force India – is rumoured to be Mercedes’ first pick of drivers to replace Schumacher. Although the Scot already has a contract in place for the 2013 season, Force India’s Bob Fernley has revealed that the team would not stand in his way if a better job offer came up.

“We would not get in the way of the career of a driver but there would have to be commercial agreement in place,” Fernley explained.
