Referring to their problematic gearbox, Mario Theissen, boss of BMW-Sauber, has stated “it is fixed.” The recurring problem with the hydraulics in their new gearbox has hampered BMW’s winter testing and the opening races of the 2007 season.
Theissen explained that the problem was due to a defect in the materials. At Bahrain, Nick Heidfeld drove an excellent race, finishing in fourth place; Kubica finished in sixth, gaining some well-deserved points for the team. The team’s strong showing at Bahrain appears to back up Theissen’s claims that the gearbox is fixed, so fans can expect more of the same competitiveness from BMW in the future.
