To add insult to injury, Rubens Barrichello will receive an engine penalty following a torrid qualifying session for the Malaysian Grand Prix. The Brazilian will be demoted ten places on the grid, to 22nd and last.
Barrichello was forced into Honda s spare car after his race car developed a gearbox problem at the start of the first knockout session, and the mechanics did not have time to transfer the engine to the T-car.
