Alonso’s pay packet

Fernando Alonso has become the third highest earning sportsman according to the sports newspaper El Mundo Deportivo. Switching from Renault to McLaren has helped boost Alonso’s earnings by an estimate 300% in addition to the extra $13 million in private sponsorship he received after winning back to back championships.

Alonso is expected to earn at least $43 million in 2007 which puts him just behind Tiger Woods at an estimated $90 million, and Phil Mickelson at $47 million.
