It's a tricky one. Surely Mclaren must think at some point that they will have to favour one driver over the other otherwise like you said they won't have a world champion because I can't see Lewis winning it in his rookie season.

Exactly, why not? Currently there is a 3 way tie for the championship. It appears that LH has just as much chance to win as Kimi or FA.

Depends, a team-mate can take points off you, but on the otherhand, they can also take points off your nearest rivals. Swings and roundabouts.

Precisely, in 1986 many say Williams lost out on the WDC as Piquet and Mansell constantly took points off each other, and during Schumacher's Ferrari years, Irvine and Barrichello were always deployed to stop Schumacher's rivals.
