I was watching the assembly of some rally cars this weekend and thought to myself, it may not be so hard to add a smooth floor to a normal passenger car. I wonder what beneficial effects if any would come from this without adding any aerowork, (diffuser etc). Certainly it would make the airflow under the car much less turbulent and perhaps decrease drag.

Maybe a thin sheetmetal or lexan sheet under the length of the car around the suspension bits. Sounds crazy but I thought it could make for a cheap/beneficial experiment. Thoughts?

it decreases drag IIRC, as air does not get to circulate around all the nooks and crannies of the undertray. However make sure the engine has got some way of getting ride of the heat.

I would like to see how much difference it would make

You'll probably get a very slight improvement in top speed and fuel consumption, and that's it.
