Dr helmut marko has been qouted as saying in the media that mercedes benz are pursuing world champion sebastian vettel
but mercedes's motorsport vice president has rubbished these claims according to http://www.crash.net

Norbert Haug has been swift to play down recent claims that Mercedes Grand Prix has its eye on reigning F1 World Champion Sebastian Vettel for the 2012 campaign – insisting that the team is 100 per cent happy with its current line-up.

Red Bull's famously outspoken and controversial motorsport advisor Dr. Helmut Marko stated earlier this week that both Mercedes and Ferrari are keen to attract Vettel's attention with regard to next year. The Austrian told Kleine Zeitung that 'knowing Sebastian has a contract with us, Mercedes expresses quite an interest in him' and added that the 23-year-old – who in Abu Dhabi in November, became the youngest title-winner in the sport's six-decade history – would not 'swap to Ferrari as long as Fernando Alonso is there...otherwise he would be stupid'.

Vettel's present agreement with Red Bull Racing expires at the end of 2011, although there is an option for 2012, and Marko – who has similarly pointed the finger at Ferrari for allegedly trying to poach some of the energy drinks-backed outfit's highest-ranked employees – assures that 'for the time after [2011], we are already talking'.

However, Mercedes-Benz Motorsport Vice-President Haug has reacted angrily to the suggestion that the Stuttgart manufacturer has designs on the young German, conceding that it is 'no secret' that he shares a good personal relationship with Vettel but stressing that it is 'absolutely wrong' to read anything more into that.

“We have not made Sebastian Vettel an offer,” the 58-year-old told German Press Agency dpa. “We have exactly the drivers we wanted in Michael Schumacher and Nico Rosberg.”

Not so stupid if RBR does not produce a car such as last years and become dogs. Very seldom does any F1 team stay on top for more than 1-2yr's but anything is possible in F1.

 but when times get tough thats the time to pull together, look at the turnaround of the 2009 mclaren

I totally agree because I believe in dedication and maybe Vettel will be one of those rare drivers.

Lets face it, which team in F1 would not sign him if he darkened their door?!?!?

any team that cares remotely about the state of their cars after a grand prix. :P

Williams.

They have a history of sacking or passing on future (And indeed, reigning) world champions

Well I would say it would be quite a risk but I still believe that Mercedes will have a much more competitive car this season, perhaps the 2nd or 1st fastest and by no means do I see one team dominating as Red Bull did in 2010.

Vettel obviously won't move for this season but if Mercedes produce a better car than the red bull, he might consider.

 But in this situation it all depends on Adrian Newey. How long can he keep Red Bull ahead of everyone else?

Sooner or later the rules will stabilise, the grid will tighten up and once again it'll all be about the biggest budget, and best resources/facilities. If this were to happen soon, i could easily see him replacing Schumacher when he retires again.

Right! This is the guy who publicised his interest in driving for Ferrari right after winning the WDC for his current team! I can't recall any other who has done that to date. :hehe:
