ESPNF1:
Mark Webber says he has patched up his strained relationship with team-mate Sebastian Vettel.

Webber admitted what was widely known, namely that for much of the 2010 season he was not on good terms with world champion Vettel. But he said the pair had worked through their differences and will go into next year with a new understanding.

"Our relationship is good now,'' he said. "At the end of the year it was good to have a chat about things now and push a few things away that happened. It is hard to talk closely to each other during the season in the heat of the battle and over the winter we will have more time to build for the season and do a better job without any friction."

Much of Webber's frustration came because of what he believed was preferential treatment given to Vettel by Red Bull, a charge repeatedly denied by the team.

He explained the fact that Red Bull had team-mates competing for the drivers' title added to the pressure. "People have to understand it only happens once every 10-15 years where you have two drivers in one team going for a championship."

Every 10-15 years? :bs: Last year at Brawn? 2007 at McLaren? Almost as dumb as LH's statement the other day. Drivers seem to have a very short memory or are just bad with numbers

But good on him for making amends - it will make his life a bit easier next season.

Its BS.

They dont like each other, just their PR heads are telling them to do this.
They may not be as bad as Massa at showing it but its true.

i dont think they have become best mates just like that, with mark losing out on the title at the last hurdle and his team mate goes and wins it?, but then mark doesnt say things without reason

I don't think they wanted/needed to somehow show that the drivers like each other - not their intention and wouldn't be believable. What they needed to do was mend their relationship to the point that they could work together again for the same team, so I do think this was one part between the two drivers, but the other part was a three-way (SV, MW, RBR-Horner/Mateschitz) endeavor to improve the climate. They'll never be buddy-buddy, but they could well become co-workers that respect each other.

Your right, from "Our relationship is good now,'' i assumed they meant that they had formed some sort of bond but once you look at it in a more neutral relationship sort of way it is more possible.

However i still think last year would have flared up some strong emotions from both of them which they might find hard to put behind.

Uh-huh. That's what they said right before the Turkish Grand Prix last year.

Anyone remember how that worked out for them? I forget...

Bit harsh! To be fair Barrichello wasn't ever really in the title fight last season... and before 2007 you're going back to 1996 to see team mates properly battling for a title, and before that you're looking at Senna/Prost and Mansell/Piquet. So he kind of has a point.

Anyway, on the real subject of this thread, it's easy to maintain good relationships when there is no pressure on... so we'll just have to wait and see if what Webber is saying actually proves to be correct.

Are you kidding?! Qualifying means nothing in the grand scheme, we all know that. The closest Rubens got to Jenson (excluding the start of the season, obviously) was 14 points away. Given how quick and reliable the Brawn was, that is a pretty sizable gap.

I thought the team orders were made clear by Brawn from very early on. All confirmed when Brawn suddenly forced Rubens in for an unscheduled extra pit stop (in Spain I think??) to let Jenson get ahead. I really felt for Twubens then, but not surprising, and in the end, it was proved to be the right call cause Jenson won the chanmpionship.

Strange there were no complaints about team orders that day :-)

That's because it wasn't an unscheduled stop and Rubens would have still won the race if he had been as fast as Jenson, who swapped to a Strategy with one less stop. He wasn't, Jenson was faster. This should not be news to you, it's been discussed many times, so either you're being willfully ignorant or your spreading FUD.

On average he is right. Cut the drivers some slack they are wheel men not scientists with big brains like yours...

jensonb is right on that subject, the stop for rubens was unplanned but i still believe that jenson was the faster guy out of the two

Last year when Vettel crashed into him being first and the whole team said that Webber was crazy, everybody could appreciate to which point both Red Bull drivers were equally treated. I don’t expect the team preferences to change, so next year they will have the same problems again. In my opinion Webber knows that, but he has “to accept” it if he wants to have a car with options to compete next year. He’s more or less in the same situation than Alonso was in McLaren in 2007, but Alonso took the other choice. Anyway, Webber has proved this year that he’s a fantastic driver able to win the WDC if he has a little bit of, the always needed, luck.
