Santa brought me lots of kitchen stuff, a whistle kettle, a knife set, a toaster oven, electric blender/vegetable chopper and a $50 Best Buy gift card!

The last item was fun to redeem; I went down to my local Best Buy store to buy a 2TB external hard disk for $109 as advertised online only to find that the in-store price is $159, a full $50 more than the online price; can anyone say RIP-OFF? I ask an customer service rep, why is it almost 50% more expensive in-store? his reply was that the online site (which is apparently run by another company) has less overheads so can sell it cheaper. OK, that would make sense if I couldn't buy online and then go pick it up in the store 30 minutes later, which is what I did! I spoke to the manager about doing a price match which was suggested to me by the customer service rep and he refused stating they'd lose money as the internet side of the business (which is a separately company remember) would reimburse the store, which makes no sense, that'd mean the online store effectively sold the product for $60! The thing that bugs me the most is that the manager told me that I could only redeem the gift card in store, which wasn't at all true!

Well done Best Buy!

In the US you learn to be a savvy consumer (or not :P ). If you're smart and know how to play the game, you can get a lot of mileage, more so than in most other countries except where there's still price haggling.

If 3G was not unbearably slow here in Kansas, I would have just ordered the product on my smartphone and picked it up there and then. I'm certainly not going to pay an extra $50 for the sake of driving 5 miles home to order online and 5 miles back to the store. if I didn't have a $50 Best Buy gift card I wouldn't have bought it from Best Buy at all as I could buy it from $20 less from another online retailer with free delivery, I'd just have to wait a couple of extra days!

But as you say DD; many people don't see the glaring loophole in the Best Buy system

Santa brought me a Lewis Hamilton top (who knew he was a fan too!!), an F1 calendar, lots of girlie stuff, and old-school headphones (the ones that you actually clamp over your head, call me nerdy-pants), and the movie Inception. I just watched Inception with nerdy headphones clamped on head. Lurved it!

On a bit of a bummer note, we had a New Years Eve party in our flat last night and some cretin decided to steal my nephew's laptop and i-pod. It was mostly close friends attending too. We first thought that it was one of our mates feeling a bit cheeky and playing a trick on us, expecting said items to suddenly *voila* appear. Yeah, no such luck. Such a horrible feeling, we opened up our house to our friends and one of them stole from us. And my poor nephew saved up months to buy his little treats...ugh! I could kill them, or kick them, maybe stun-gun, kick and then kill? :hammer: <- me hammering laptop/ipod thief on head.

So, ahem, how was your New Year!!

The awful thing was going through who was there, narrowing it down. It's all we've thought about all day. So, yeah, we know who it is now. Not much we can do though. Just going to have to send death vibes his way and hope the laptop electrocutes him :wavey:

Uh, and why is it that you can't do much?

I'm sure you have your reciepts with serial numbers so collect them and make a police report, the :censored: threats do sound rather enticing though.

DD, we can't do much because even though we have our suspicions, we have no evidence to back it up. "So...these people were in our house, and....?". We filed a police report today, the officer managed to suss it out in about ten minutes because she was familiar with the people we suspected 8-)

Not that will mean the laptop is coming back home anytime soon though *shrug*
