Singaporean government has yet to make a decision whether it will make longer its Formula One race contract beyond 2012. Over the weekend, F1 chief executive Bernie Ecclestone said he would be happy if the sport continued to return for another 20 years, after the race has become an annual highlight in its three years on the calendar so far.

You need to understand "official" political statements from here in Singapore mate. FYI....the Singaporeans have invested far too much for this event to be short-term.....and the company who owns and runs the event belongs to one of the best connected and wealthiest Singaporeans.

I'd say that Singapore is committed VERY long term.

Just out of curiosity hounddub, do Singaporeans consider the circuit itself a little dull?

Funny you ask, I have been to all 3 Singapore GP's but this year I didn't go to the track and watched it at a nearby bar. The track itself if right in the middle of town and has fantastic vantage points for viewing at all points. The lack of elevation change is probably the most obvious issue that sense in your post. For the most part, most Singaporeans don't really care about F1 as the tickets are too expensive and it's more an inconvenience to their normal working lives (you see, the Chinese are more interested in making money!), but those who are into it.....just love the noise and atmosphere.

As far as the track goes....for me it's no different in attractiveness to Adelaide, Valencia or Melbourne. It's a street circuit....abeit, a very long one.

From all the commentary Sunday it seems this race is being considered a jewel atleast by the dwarf himself. I like that it is a very demanding track but as some of you know I'm more into the high speed circuits especially those from the past such as Mexico and the Österreichring.
