I'm fed up with porsche, and to be fair most car companies these days filling in gaps between models for a car that has to be watered down so it won't be as good as the more expensive model. For example, the Porsche cayman is kind of inbetween the boxster and 911 and is nearlly as fast as the 911 pretty much anywhere. It has been outlined by Clarkson before that you get the sense that Porsche and other car makers have lost the plot to build a fantastic car and just build new and pretty pointless cars to fill in the gaps. This annoys me as well in that sure,l they are out there to make money as well as great cars but the cayman is exactly that, a cheap 911 that is pretty pointless.

Porsche annoys me as well with all these special edition cars with monumental price tags: The new 911 speedster, cayman s design edition, boxster spider, 911 classic. I really just don't get the point!

And don't let me get started on the cayenne!

Porsche is worried about deviating from the 911 design that made them the manufacturer they are today so therein lies the question, should you fix something that is not broken? IMHO the Cayman blows away the Boxster in every category and I really dig the Cayenne.

The Cayman could blow away the 911 if Porsche had a mind to. It's already an amazingly balanced platform, with the additional rigidity and aerodynamics of a roofline.

The problem isn't just with Porsche is with alot of manufacturers.

In a SOFT economy it's hard enough to sell cars already, let alone when a less expensive model can cannibalize sales of another model.

VW America won't bring the Scirocco stateside for the same fear but in the other direction, it would cannibalize GTI sales.
