History is on Webber's side if the success of previous Aussies is any precedent.

"In 1959, Jack Brabham became Australia's first Formula One World Champion. He won his title in a Cooper, the team's first Constructors' Championship win.

In 1980, Alan Jones became Australia's second Formula One World Champion. He won his title in a Williams, the team's first Constructors' Championship win.

This season, Australian Mark Webber is leading the Drivers' Championship. His team, Red Bull, is currently favourite to win its first Constructors' Championship."

Interesting.

And probably totally irrelevant. :D

it amazes me where people pull these statistics from.

And they likely got paid for pulling that statistic as well.

I don't the statistics count for anything, here.
I'm certain of it, actually.
He has a real shot, anyway. He has been really fast during the whole season (with some exceptions), but he's still a looooong way away, especially considering that there are 5 drivers in 20 points.
This season does look like the season of his life, but you never know..

Don't know. It seems he depends on Vettel's mistakes... although the run in Hungary was fantastic, it would not have been enough (probably) to beat Vettel without the penalty.

Mark certainly has a good chance to win the title if Red Bull allow him to win, I still get the feeling that Horner and Co. will usurp Webber in favour of golden boy!

I think its more related to if Vettel stays clear of mistakes/reliability, rather than whoever the team favours.

So, would you rather depend on the other making mistakes or on yourself to be able not to..... hmm tough. But without mistakes, Webber is behind Vettel.

If Lewis can't win it, I'd be chuffed if Webber won...because I can't stand both Ferrari drivers, Vettel shouldn't as he'd be youngest WDC, and Jenson doesn't deserve it. :D

They wouldnt allow him.The golden boy is the one they can use for advertisements and if he become the youngest WDC,that will be really nice for RB.Nicer than when Webber would become.

I just want him to beat Vettel. If Webber wins (I think he will not) I would prefer it than Vettel or Alonso. Even though I prefer Webber to win, It is not because I think he is more deserving of the WDC than Vettel, in fact I think Vettel is driving slightly better than Webber this year.

Mistakes are part of F1; the point is Mark has made less mistakes and he is leading the WDC! Vettel is too much of a hothead and is still making rookie mistakes despite being in F1 for four years now. Mark is an old head, he's been there and done it; and that experience is why he is heading the championship table!
