...How much should I be paying on 2012 for the US Grand Prix? You know, a ballpark number.

I don't have to worry about hotels 'cos I can get them for cheap since my wife works at one, and no airfare since Austin is 50 minutes from here.

So, more or less, how much will I need to save for me and my son?

I would imagine that it will be a lot cheaper as they will need to make a good impression on the USA

I doubt that.
First year the tickets will sell like hot cakes, knowing Mr. Ecclestone he will probably choose to do the same as all the new tracks and put high prices ranging from 50-60 USD all the way till 1 and a half, maybe 2 thousand dollars. (not including 'green room' tickets)

Depends on inflation and the situation that the economy is in. I think having F1 in America again will catch many, people's eyes so they might publicise the grand prix a lot. I haven't seen the facilities or the track but they might encourage vast numbers with low prices. It's hard to say but I would guess around $300 for a weekend deal. Shop around for all inclusive and package deals for travel and whatever. But most importantly, good luck!
