During the qualifying telecast and the race telecast in the lead up to it, there seemed to be an attempt to "Top Gear" the program up a little bit. EJ and Jake going camping and ruining the barbecue was okay. The part in the pub went on way too long. Cool stuff to see, no doubt, but not really right in the lead up to the race. Seemed too jokey for me, as opposed to the one-on-one interviews and other spots they have done in the past.

Coulthard seems to steer clear of the shenanigans thankfully.

Do you all like this, or does it get on your nerves a little bit too as you are getting ready to watch the race that they focus on the buddy comedy of EJ and Jake a little too much?

Maybe it was all related to Rubens Barrichello's appearance on Top Gear tonight... I didn't see the shenanigans as I always watch the race on the iPlayer about 3 hours after the race has ended as coverage starts at 6am here in the mid west, and I always skip to the start of the race!

Just more infotainment...

Maybe EJ and Jake should try an F1 Punk'd segment. Episode 1: Webber - "Dude, where's my wing"

Was good.
I liked what Button said when Alonso was stuck on Hammy's head.

'He really likes you, and didn't overtake the safety car!'

OMG! The BRITISH broadcastong corporation spent too long on stuff regarding two BRITISH driver teamates racing at the BRITISH GP. That's just terrible but at least they didn't mention 1966.

This was in Britain so i expect the British Broadcadsting Corp to do topics that are relevant to British Occupants.

We pay for the BBC id like to get what i pay for.

With regards to focusing on two British drivers, that is not what I had a problem with. The interview with Hammy and Butty a few weeks back was great and made sense in context (plus it is fun to see them busting each other's balls). Bringing in jerky radio guys trying to be funny and Jake/EJ off on a very top-gearish camping excursion didn't feel out of place to you? There were lots of stories and items to be followed up in the runup to the race.

Again I said I liked the stuff (yes how Jenson described Alonso in that piece was great), just thought it was out of place in the run up to the race.

How do you get access to the iPlayer in Kansas? I thought it was restricted from use on US IPs.

I use a VPN that connects to a UK server which means that as far as the iPlayer is concerned I am in the UK! :D

One thing... was it just me or was Eddie Jordan the only one of the BBC team asking the right questions yesterday?

If so it is a first! :P

The thing that is starting to piss me off is how they always speak to the same team owners and drivers!

They also made out they wouldn't be like ITV and just focus on certain drivers 99% of the the time, but that didn't last very long at all. :banghead:

Brilliant! Dunno how I didn't think of that.

I've said it before.

ITV 1997 until 2006ish revolutionised Grand Prix coverage, even outside the UK.

People are too quick to remember the "Lewis Hamilton love in" and the adverts.

But few realise that due to budget cuts and falling advertising revenues ITV had to do that to make money.

I still think their coverage changed the face of how the sport is presented and many of their ideas have simply been taken over by BBC.

Yes the BBc have all the interactive stuff, but in reality ITV has limited red button options and do not need to justify spending money on contracts like the public-beeb.

Furthermore during the "golden years" of ITV, NO free-to-air broadcaster had any access to the digital interactive options as Ecclestone was still trying to pursue his PPV service.

I thought that as well as everyone was asking the question but pussyfooting around the "feelings". I guess you have to do that otherwise they won't talk to you. I would have thought that the old man has something in their contracts that they have to speak to media before and after the race.
