Renault F1 Team Eyes Up Kubica And Raikkonen For 2011
June 29th, 2010

Robert Kubica will stay at Renault F1 Team if he has the financial warranties, while the team wants to convince Kimi Raikkonen return in Formula 1.
Robert Kubica started the negotiations with Renalut for extending the contract that ends at the end of this seas, given that he has a clause that has to be triggered before the British Grand Prix on July 11.
One of the Polish’s main requests are that Renault F1 to guarantee that it has the financial resources to build a competitive car so that the driver to be able to fight for the World Title.

According to some sources quoted by Autosport, Renault F1 Team is very close to signing a major sponsorship deal with Mastercard, that would so assure a big part of the team’s budget of the next year.
Right for this reason, Eric Boullier boss is confident that he can satisfy Kubica’s request, and admits that the rival teams are already interest in the Polish.
“We definitely want him and we have spoken – and it is up to us to show that we have the ambition and the means to be ambitious. If we do that, then I am sure he will stay. If he doesn’t want to stay then he will leave, it is as simple as that,” explained the French.
On the other hand, the quoted source say that, boosted by the budged foretasted for the next year, the owner Gerard Lopez already informed the team’s bosses that he intends to convince Raikkonen to comeback in Formula 1 at the Renault Team. The Finn left Formula 1 for WRC this year, after he canceled his deal with Ferrari.

They just might be able to convince him you know. I have a feeling about Renault next year - they've resigned all the aero staff who left at the start of 2007 (their departure is widely considered as the reason for the team's dip in form, allied to the departure of Alonso) and now have a driver to really build the team around. So, if they can convince Raikkonen they'll be quick he might go for it.

I can see signs of them changing again, but then i see Petrov as a real talent so i hope he stays in F1. But Kimi does need to come back with a vegence he is one of the best drivers i have witnessed and i really want him back in Ferrari with Alonso

I loved his style and the way he was :)

Plus i believe Renault could suit him? They could supply him with a good package and put him back into the fight!

RBR v McLaren v Ferrari v Renault?

Just like 2004 :cloud9:

that deal must be massive then because Kimi aint cheap, and i imagine Robert isn't either.

Kimi and Bob - good driver pair that.

Renault could be a big player in 2011

Maybe Renault need a big name as Kubica might be on his way somewhere else

Where though? Mercedes if Schumacher retired? (Which i think is unlikely)

If Schumacher continues to be out performed by Rosberg, I think Mercedes may want to entice him to take a consultant's role with the team or even a co-ownership stake. This solution would allow him a graceful exit from the driver's role without the perception of a stain on his career.

Either Kubica + Alonso, or Kubica + Kimi at Renault would be fantastic.
Lets see what happens.

Kimi is probably cheaper now... a yr at rallying got him thinking room service aint that bad :)

Still worth £15mill. He is one of the most talented drivers in the world. He is in my opinion better than Lewis or JB.

I questioned Kimi Raikkonen's desire to be an F1 driver during the 2009 season and it seems given that he could have taken a drive with McLaren for $15m and turned that down; it seems that he has had his fill of F1 and wanted to go in another direction. $15m is nothing to sneeze at; yet he walked away for much less in WRC!

Kimi had a piece of crap car in 2009 just like what Schumacher has now at Mercedes GP. The Renault engine is strong and if they can give Kubica aero updates to keep posting good results, Kimi may be a team mate with Robert.
