Alonso tested it at Fiorano over the weekend. It was noticed earlier in the season that RBR have an "exhaust decal" on their cars in the same location as the 2009 exhaust exit to disguise the fact that their exhaust now is ducted into the diffuser. Some estimates are it increases the diffuser's downforce by 80% and now Ferrari have copied it.

Seems they're bringing it to Valencia. Hopefully it works.

What's its advantage? ( :yikes: that's really difficult to say out loud)
is it the extra air being pushed through the diffuser at a higher velocity; or is it also the temperature (and difference in density) of the warm exhaust air creating some extra downforce? I think both.

hopfully it dosn't work.

No, you dont want that :P
You want Ferrari to challenge your team so that your team can show how great they are.

nah the exhaust melting the rear tyres would be much funnier.

McLaren and Mercedes look set to emulate the unique low-mounted engine exhaust layout of Red Bull's successful 2010 car design.

The RB6 has proven the most competitive chassis during the first part of the 2010 season and it has emerged that Ferrari's Valencia-spec upgrade features similar low-mounted engine exhausts.

Rival engineers also believe the layout, pioneered by Adrian Newey, allows air to be channelled more efficiently into the downforce-producing double diffuser. The system is believed to be worth up to half a second per lap.

"We have a reasonably big upgrade that we are fighting to have for Silverstone, and if that is there then I would be disappointed if it is not a much bigger step than that," said McLaren team boss Martin Whitmarsh.

Mercedes GP chief executive Nick Fry also admitted that the team is keen on implementing the system seen on the Red Bull and it could be in place as soon as this weekend's European Grand Prix at Valencia.

"If we can get both of those things on the car then we'll be in a lot better position," said Fry.

Team boss Ross Brawn also admitted that the system is likely to make a more widespread appearance over the next few races.

"I know that everyone is looking with interest at their exhaust system," confirmed Brawn.

might i add, while the attention for the Euro GP has centred around Ferrari running this exhaust, not much has been said of RedBull running an F-Duct here which could just keep them that little bit ahead!

Cant wait for Silverstone. :D:D:D

Williams also have this development in the pipeline, Sam Michael claims it willl bring at least 0.5 seconds to the dog of a car FW32... but I'll believe that when I see it.

We'll know that this upgrade for Ferrari works properly if Alonso takes pole and the win this weekend at Valencia.

Hopefully this will help Massa take a good step forward too.

It's not that bad a situation dude, the '08 car was terrible at 90% of circuits for example! I think if it wasn't for the supreme strength of the top 4 this season Williams wouldn't be looking anywhere near as bad.

Regarding this Ferrari system i have heard things such as '80% diffuser performance improvement' which is pretty vague, but at the same time there has to be something there for them to make such a claim...
