Mosley: Ferrari tried to fix appeal hearings
1 of 1
On the eve of Ferrari's 800th grand prix, Max Mosley has leveled a damning accusation at the Scuderia, saying they tried to fix the results of appeal hearings.
Mosley, who was ousted from his role as head of the FIA last year, has launched his latest attack on the Italian marques, revealing that Ferrari President Luca di Montezemolo attempted to have last year's double-decker diffuser hearings rigged in Ferrari's favour.
"Luca does have this silly idea that if it is Ferrari then it is okay," the former FIA President told the Daily Mail.
"When we had all this stuff about the double-diffuser he was on the phone every day saying, 'You have got to sort out the Court of Appeal and make sure we win'.
"He didn't put it as baldly as that but that is what he said. I said, 'Luca, I'm sorry but first of all they wouldn't take any notice and secondly I am not going to do it'.
"I couldn't. He took that quite personally. He honestly thought I would."
However, it wasn't the first time that Ferrari's alleged belief that they deserve preferential treatment had come into play.
According to 70-year-old Mosley, di Montezemolo's crew also attempted to get the FIA's Court of Appeal to overturn the expulsion of Michael Schumacher and Eddie Irvine from the 1999 Malaysian GP for running illegal barge boards.
"Ferrari won that appeal quite rightly on the technicality," Mosley said.
"Two years later I was at the Turin Motor Show and I was invited into a little area where the Fiat (Ferrari's parent company) people were and Gianni Agnelli (Fiat's owner) himself came up to me.
"He said, 'Thank you so much for what you did over the barge boards'.
"He honestly thought it had been fixed."
Ferrari have refused to comment on Mosley's accusations.
"We don't want to make any comment. It is better to look ahead and not waste time talking about what is - luckily - old and gone," said the Italian team.

Oh well Mosley, had you backed Ferrari and obeyed their request, perhaps then you still may of been the FIA President today.
