Yesterday the Red Bull guys were over at Punta Cana with Jaime driving an F1 car ON THE BEACH.

It was actually a surprise I didnt expect, because they went for the regular demonstration at Santo Domingo (in front of 200,000+ people), but also came to Punta Cana for some record breaking stunt: driving an F1 at 180 kph on the beach. This was like 20 mins from my house, and they held it pretty quiet...

Here's some photos from F1-live

(the pics are labelled as driving on the beach at Santo Domingo, but that's not correct (The beach driving is in Punta Cana, the city drive was in Santo Domingo)

I will see if later today I can find some of the pics we took with a friend's camera (it caught me by surprise so I wasnt prepared for it; the Red Bull show was supposed to be only in Santo Domingo!)...

'pretty quiet' and F1 cars don't go.

Surreal pics though, nice.

hmmm you're right. But I meant quiet as in... "not too much publicity". For example in Santo Domingo there were 200,000 spectators; in Punta Cana... maybe around 200...

There's a whole lot many more pics. A friend of mine that does a local publication got some awesome shots. Will publish them once they're set to go. And also i got a little video (cel phone) from the whole beach stunt. It was insane.

The one with the car parked in front of the bodega is my favorite. The dog makes the shot.

Yeah, that's very funny. F1 meets the 3rd world hehehe

the team is going to love cleaning all the sand and salt water off every cm of the car :hehe:

Judging by how I still have beach sand in my car from... last yr; i think they'll NEVER get the sand completely out :hehe:

Why did they do this??

Nobody knew exactly what their plan was. In fact, when Jaime went INTO the water everyone was completely stoked and surprised!

Also, they didnt really give it much publicity; and I think what they were after was the record of going over 180kph on the beach.
But I guess they just want to show how EXTREME they are. Must be part of their marketing strategy...
whatever the reasons... it was awesome.

Newey probably wants to make an F1 car that can surf, so they're using Toro Rosso as a Guinea pig.
