So who is for dropping 'em?
I have always regarded them as againt the racing ethic. It should be up to the faster car to get by itself. I know fans of the leading teams wont want to see theme gone as they help their heroes!
There are safety reasons too why the blues should go. When a slower car has to find the right place to pass he cannot signal properly to the car behind often causing confusion. Its not even as if it stops faster cars getting stuck behind slower ones ( Ask DC!) It takes time of a drivers lap to deliberately hold back another car wich is detterent enough. Its time all the teams hare a fair chance at unlapping themselves and climbing up the running order.

Without blue flags, there would be too much opportunity for political behaviour among the backmarkers. You'd get McLaren offering financial or technical assistance to a backmarker team, and suddenly McLarens would pass the backmarker team's cars really easily, and McLaren's competitors would be blocked as much as possible. Losing time is absolutely not enough of a deterrent as it could easily be the case that such "assistance" may be crucial for a team's survival.

Thats silly, how come you didn't get Lewis passing Suitl when was was stuck behind him then?

Nah but the fact is you'd get past all the slower cars ok, but once you caught it with the faster cars torro rosso, etc.. you'd just ruin your tires trying to get past.

I think it is a good idea, plus it would make people like Ferrari/Mercedes/Renault offer "alliances" cheaper to the smaller teams.

It will lead to more overtaking as well, not just the backmarkers but the leading cars might end up getting stacked up behind a slow car which could lead to all sorts of dan dare deperate moves.

:nono::rolleyes: Pinnacle of motorsport, people, pinnacle of motorsport. Do we really want to see race victories determined by the leaders tripping over some intransigent back marker? Noooooo.

It will show the men from the boys when they need to overtake and not just qualify on poll and then scamper off into the distance where is the fun of that?

How many times did we hear whining claims that Ferrari engined Saubers were letting the Ferraris through, but being less cooperative with Ferrari's main competitors? Loads of times. And we heard it from people such as Martin Brundle too.

^^
It had been posed as a possibility during similar situations with other Ferrari customers too, like Red Bull and Torro Rosso. But that suggestion isn't unique to Ferrari and their customers.

Torro Rosso would not be a problem as they would have to move over for Redbull and Ferrari, maybe even Sauber

Force India would only have to move over for Mclaren and Mercedes.

interesting you bring up McLaren in a hyperthetical when you could have used an actual incident involving Ferrari and the Saubers in holding up JV... 1997 Jerez

Back to the topic blue flags are common in all forms of motorsport. I think if they're not fighting for position then they need to get out the way!
