F1, "the pinnacle of motorsport", seems to fall short in a lot of people's eyes it seems (aren't we so picky). I love the sport, but I often wonder about what shape it could take 50 years into the future, or an alternate universe where the sport is very different. Disregarding issues like cost and safety I enjoy designing what my ultimate motor series would be. Here's what I've dreamt up:

One driver per team (totally eliminating even a chance of team orders)

Movable parts totally legal (imagine something like a car morphing into a dart for the straights to minimize drag, and expanding like a peacock into the corners for air-braking and downforce)

Refueling legal but not mandatory (should open up the possible tactics a lot)

If there's been no overtaking for 4 laps, the sprinklers get switched on. (a controlled level of water on the track for maximum excitement)

Points awarded for qualifying, then reverse order for race start (Qualifying points will stretch all the way down the grid so that the second to last driver gets 1 point and only the last driver gets 0, this gives incentive to qualify as high as possible despite the fact that the order is totally reversed for the race, practically guaranteeing an eventful race)

I'll add more to this as more comes to me. It'd be interesting to see other people's ideas of what their perfect motorsport would be like. So hit me :)

I would hate points 4 and 5. Manufactured overtaking and excitement is something i'm against. Takes the meaningfulness out of a really good overtake.

Movable aero would cause huge field spread and overtaking problems, cause any air braking would be badly affected behind other cars. I agree on refuelling but at the same time i think all the teams would just decide to use it cause it'd be faster over a whole race distance. Perhaps if they made the refuelling flow rates a lot slower...

Exactly. I don't like anything to be artificial in my racing. If you start doing stuff that's just artificial then the whole thing will feel fake, and if it's fake it's a big turn-off for me. They might just as well start scripting how everything will play out at that point, or even go one step further and just use CGI to produce races that don't even actually take place in the real world at all.

I like the idea for the reserve grid for the race based on qualifying, but that would make Qualifying for the race useless. So instead use the last race result for the reserve grid. Also have points for fastest lap and fastest pit stop (from entry and exit of the pits). I also like the idea of points going down the field, but a gap of 1 point from each position.

Yep Movable Aero would have to be restricted massivly or it would just get silly.

Refuling would introduce stratagy more but wouldbe always used if you slow down the rates then they'd look at the fastest option overall and use that all the time.
