Hello all!

I have recently (as of the start of this season) become an F1 fan.
I can't get enough of the sport and am soaking in tons of knowledge about it's current state and history.
I have truly enjoyed every race so far.

My main question, and I apologize for the ignorance, is in regards to the long layoff we have here...

Why is there such a break, and not even in the middle of the season?

Is this customary? Is there a reason for the extended layoff???

I need F1 to start again!!! :)

Thanks for any light you can shed.

Oh man, I know the feeling. Just wait for August (4 weeks). I have to lock myself in my room with A Clockwork Orange on loop just to keep the demons at bay.

I felt the same way my first diehard season (2006) but i've found that other racing, like MotoGP, Le Mans, WRC, make the break far more tolerable. It's not F1 but it gives me something to look forward to most every weekend.

You could do like I do and use the breaks to study the season stats, track layouts, history of the particular GP, but then again, I'm a bit of an F1 [geek] fan.

Good news... only 12 hours now!

Wow! Welcome to F1, the best of the best. I couldnt begin to tell you where to begin to catch up/learn about the history of F1. Maybe a visit to youtube.com to see some old videos or just keep searching the net. 3 weeks has seemed like forever. Get used to at least 1 week off between races and sometimes more. Watch more than just the race. Quali is great and for the die-hards, practice is also fun to watch. I cant wait for practice tomorrow to see if there have been changes to some cars from asia. All else I can say is ENJOY!!!

Thanks for the welcome and the replies!

Is there a reason for the breaks, though?

Just curious...

Hello,

The first 4 races of the season are all based in Asia, so as you can imagine the teams are away from Europe for 8 weeks.

The 3 week break is to allow the teams the time to return to Europe, you could say its to allow the entire F1 circus to move continents, its a massive logistical exercise. You will also see some major upgrades now they are closer to home. Spain is the start of the big development rush, now that the teams resources are close at hand

Thanks for the replies everyone! I appreciate the welcome and info.

So, it's a logistics-thing, then...cool.

And for my winter, no worries, my first and truest love is the N.F.L. :)

Your hiding behind the pit crew? I could just get Massa to fly into em.
