is it just me or does the presence of a safety car cause several problems! the main one being that they are fast road cars but not fast enough for fomula 1. i'm sure that a formula1 car from the previous year could be adapted to perform this feat or a ex le mans car !?

Lol, good call DD :D

To be fair tho the safety cars they use are fairly rapid machines, but at the end of the day they are there to slow traffic, not race the other cars. Although i did find it rather funny when the F1 cars were struggling to keep up because the track was soaked through!!

lapping at nearly full pace defeats the purpose of having a car called the safety car doesnt it?

for sure tyre pressures drop but what about the marshals trying to help a stricken driver on the side of the track?

Safety car = safety speeds all in all SAFE 8)

I was thinking along the same vein, bud. However, why not use a Skoda or somtin'? It has to be fast enough to get its tail out of the way at a reasonable speed upon restart. Apart from the fact it should also look good on the track. How about the manufacturers alternate as to who brings a safety car to a particular race? That way they could showcase their models.

Well since mercedes do it, why not use an SLR, that should be easily up to the task.

i know the purpose is to slow the pack down but it seems a shame that tyres, engines and brakes all suffer.Maybe with a purpose built car there could be a few faster laps once the track is cleared!

Once the track is cleared? Hell, then get off the track in a jiffy, alright? No more laps behind the safety car, fast or slow!

agreed, this whole 'let backmarkers past' is already going to slow down proceedings enough as it is.
