Peugeot fastest in Sebring practice
http://www.autosport.com/news/report.php/id/82225

By Matt Beer Thursday, March 18th 2010, 21:41 GMT

#08 Peugeot, Sebring 2010The #08 Peugeot was quickest in both of today's daylight practice sessions at Sebring, leading its sister #07 car in one-two formation each time as the team's domination of the build-up to the 12 Hours continued.

Sebastien Bourdais topped the morning session, before Nicolas Minassian went fastest in the afternoon. The crew was using a fresh monocoque for today's running after a crack was founded in the underside during a routine inspection yesterday.

Drayson Racing beat Aston Martin to third place in both sessions, getting within 0.6 seconds of the pacesetting Peugeot in the morning.

Highcroft HPD extended its advantage over its LMP2 rivals to 2s in first practice, but Cytosport Porsche was the only LMP2 squad to run later on.

The Rahal Letterman BMW squad showed its hand in GT2, running one-two in both sessions

In LMPC, Ryan Hunter-Reay led a Level 5 one-two in the morning, before Green Earth Gunnar's Christian Zugel set the afternoon pace, while the Velox and TRG teams led a session apiece in GTC.

Practice resumes with a night time session at 7.15pm local time this evening.

So we have the LMP1 boys up front, which should create the usual drama at the front, however I am more interested in the potential of the newly-created GT Class where we are set for a 5 way battle between Porsche, Ferrari, Chevrolet, BMW and Jaguar.

Plus, unlike the L1 guys at the front, the GT class will complete every round of the series :P

It's on Motors TV.

Btw, Gene is a top bloke. I had a chat to him at Silverstone where he took time out of his busy schedule :P

Sebring, possible F1 venue :P?

I am watching the pre-race and I would say.... No.. not yet. That track is bumpy everywhere. It does not "look" like current F1. I'd give it a 3 out of 5. The location though is perfect..

It is a perfect location, and the actual circuit layout is excellent. However, from watching the footage myself, the track would have to have a major overhaul to get up to F1 standards. I also agree that Florida would be a gd venue for a US GP given Daytona etc.

Surely this is a Pug affair. I doubt Aston can really fight against Pug just yet. But then again, I'm just assuming.

Supposedly the Aston has a higher topend than the Pug and the Pugs torque will be hard to overcome but I would love to see Aston win :) .

Yep the track is bumpy as hell and is just as so on Gran Turismo as it caught me out alot.

The timing was perfect, Sebring this weekend and Australia next weekend. Peugeot's looked too strong, and Audi wasn't there compete.

They weren't allowed to which was a joke!

After spending some time looking for the reason as to why they weren't allowed, I couldn't find anything. What happened? I just thought based on some of the commentary that they simply weren't ready. But I did miss the first two hours of the race where they may have gone over that stuff.
