Having just watched the First 2 practices of the year on BBC's red button there is a lot of talk about the 107% rule coming back this year.
I have started watching F1 since the rule has been chucked so don't really pretend to know a lot about it but at the moment I think the HRT team would need to find at least 2-3 seconds just to be allowed to race.

What does everyone think? Should it be brought back or not?

no

107% rule cannot be put in place this season without the consent of all the teams so I don't see it happening. But after seeing the pace of the HRT 13 seconds a lap slower I think it could be dangerous.

Well you say it can't be implemented but if all the other teams are OK with it and the FIA want to push it I doubt anyone would care if HRT or any new team threw their toys out the cot about it

with HRT doing a few (5 installtion laps at the MAX in Bruno's car and nothing in Kaurns car which will be dangerous as he isn't exactly the best driver and never driven in a f1 car before i believe). One of the HRT cars could be 15 seconds off the pace in quali tomorrow :O

thank **** USF1 didn't show up

No if HRT or any team says no then the answer is no pretty sure it's a legal contract.

I actually never understood how 107% was calculated until a few weeks ago. :|

I wouldn't bring it in, what's the point of getting into Formula One, doing the qualifying for a GRID POSITION and then being told you can't race because your too slow.

It's in case the slow teams make the sport look bad or if they are actually so slow it makes it dangerous in a race.

Never gonna happen. HRT, STR, Lotus & Virgin won't have it.

Not necessarily. The Concorde Agreement will allow the FIA to introduce such a rule on safety grounds (for example).

Just to play devils advocate here. So the FIA can decide that they do not want a car to race because it is outside 107%. However if a team does not show up they will get a a ticking of from the FIA? So if USF1 had not been granted the miss the first 4 races then they could of turned up with a pedel car and been outside 107% so they would of been ok.

You also have to think about the contractual issues with team sponsor if they do not race.

there's 6 cars that are going to get lapped and lapped and lappped especialy the HRT which was 11seconds of the pace.

Now its not a problem with this circuit but in Monaco its going to a nightmare.

Not really in favor of 107% rule. I'm more worried about the fact that some haven't even tested their cars and drivers which I think is more dangerous than being slow.

107% rule needs to be put in place.

Hispania can't race after only doing a couple laps, and being 12 seconds of the pace. It's just ridiculous. Everyone complained about Alguesuari driving an F1 car. Senna and Chandock are going to be driving a car thats 12 seconds of the pace, whilst not even having 20 or 30 laps experience, nevermind a race distance. It just can't happen.

Hispania need to be given a day or two of testing. They can't go racing with a car as dreadful as the one they have.
