Villeneuve joins BBC commentary team

By Hugh Podmore Wednesday, March 10th 2010, 17:57 GMT

Jacques Villeneuve is set to join the BBC's Radio 5 Live commentary team for the Bahrain Grand Prix.

The 1997 Formula 1 world champion, who has been disappointed in recent weeks after his plans to return to F1 this year with Stefan GP collapsed when the team was not granted a last-minute 2010 entry, will move into the commentary box for the first race of the season.

The incumbent Radio 5 Live team consists of David Croft and ex-Honda driver Anthony Davidson. Davidson is scheduled to race a Peugeot in the American Le Mans Series opener at Sebring the following weekend, and is expected to begin testing ahead of the event on Monday.

He's replacing Davidson doing 5 live commentary, you aren't getting rid of EJ that easily... :hehe:

I want to hear more Jackie Stewart. Yoda of F1 commentary.

The most knowledgable commentator to date imo aswell yet I get tired real fast of his constant berating and negative judgement against drivers, Despain and Hobbs are my favorites.

He's only going to replace Davidson for Bahrain. Ant will be back for Aus.

I want to hear more Jackie Stewart. Yoda of F1 commentary.

Yeh if i was an F1 Driver i'd want Jackie on the team Radio.

He's a ledge, shame he dosn't comentate more often.

:P

Man, I must be going mad, but I think JV would actually be quite a good replacement for Eddie. When they were talking to him on the Beeb towards the end of last season (Singapore maybe) he came across as personable and very reasonable.

I bet JV has only got the spot so he can plug his albums.

Agreed. Get EJ out and offer Villeneuve a permanant spot.

Or just get rid of EJ. Either way is good.

I don't know. I quite like the idea of having an ex-team owner on there as well as a driver, but Eddie isn't the right choice, so I agree on him going regardless.
