BE states that the current system does not reward the winner of the race sufficiently. [no poo!]

“With second place getting 8 points, it is not right that the winner takes only 10,” Ecclestone explained. “For 2008, I will propose a change.” [Uh, yeah, we've known this for years and it was unfair to MS]

Ecclestone has also suggested that the year’s world champion should be decided on number of race wins, rather than points accumulated.

How 'bout counting only the 10 best results for the championship? We had that kind of system before, during AP's time I remember. If there's a tie, the number of victories is the tiebreaker, then the number of second places and so on.

The last points system in 02 before this one gave the driver more for his win 10, 6, 4, 3, 2, 1. It makes that win all that important and that's what F1 is all about, standing on the top spot of the podium. You might as well have the 2nd podium the same height. :)

But I prefer the points system going all the way back to 8th. Gives those smaller teams a good chance of some WC points.

Now Schumacher's gone we should go back to the old system or even give "best 11 scores count" another go.

Took the words out of my mouth, notice how they are going back to slicks and fats at the back as well...

And also getting rid of those stupid fins and wings etc on the cars as well making the cars look 1990's again. Notice how Williams' nose cone this season and last season looks like the good old style drooped noses. :D

So what's next? A return to Turbos? ;)

Or British touring car, where in the second race the top 10 finishers from the first race are reversed on the grid for the second. That really would mix things up!

I'm wondering if the championship outcomes would have been different under the old points system in recent years...

That would be an interesting comparison... Someone somewhere must have done it already...

Yeah, I had a quick look at it the other day. Last year's Drivers' title wouldn't have changed, but the constructors' title would have, but this will have to be verified.

Interesting, other things to consider as well like confidence during the season if someone has the slight advantage for having more wins etc, not sure if that's worth mentioning though...

I'm going to see if I can find it on Google...

Totally, didn't Schumacher Snr have a fit over the change from the old scoring system during that season? It's a nightmare for unreliable but fast teams, 18 points vs 16 should both their cars go out with competitors coming in 1st and 2nd.

why does the scoring system have to be fairer? if a team is bad they shouldnt get points.

at this rate all teams will be awarded ten points for turning up at the grid each race in the interest of fairness.
