With all the new teams predicted to be slow, whoever can make their way through them fast when lapping will have a big advantage. And, we could see some comings together. Anyone else think that the backmarkers are going to have a role in the championship this year?

Unfortunately due to the 2 blue flags rule introduced a few years back, backmarkers can no longer block leaders and take them off like you used to see with De Cesaris and co.

I would agree with that.
And, we could see some comings together.

There is a higher probability of this than normal yet hopefully it will not happen especially to one of the leaders making his way through.

Maybe alittle but then again I cannot make a fair judgement without seeing the first race to assess the new drivers or the new teams pace.

Good question though  .

It could cause some problems with Q1, where some cars get blocked and it ruins a curcial lap.

7 cars get knocked out in Q1, so that means we'll deffinetly see the 3 new teams knocked out, plus one more driver. But even if they get blocked a little, I doubt one of the top 4 teams will get knocked out in Q1. Thus we'll not have any major compliants.

But then comes Q2, and the new teams won't be around to cause such issues. I doubt it'll be a major fuss.

But hey, if one of the top drivers has to start in 18th, and has to fight through the feild. I have no compliants.

Anything can happen, and it usually does. I think it will be more of a problem when you combine all of the other aspects that have been mentioned, inexperienced drivers, tight circuits and the desire for the best of the rest title since all of the new team will be fiercely competing with each other. Almost two separate races going on. I thing the larger the gap between the leader's pace and the back markers the easier it will be. But if towards the end of the season the gap has been cut to around 2 seconds then it will be a bigger issue.

Actually, the closer the pace is the less of an issue it is.

For safety yes, I'd agree but not for passing.

For passing. Yeah, if one of the established teams has a failure and can't set a time during quali, and has to start last. Sure it'll be easy as anything to overtake those 6 new cars.

But we're talking about the issues during qualifying, with cars getting blocked, and the speed difference causing problems.

Well, it comes with the sport and it will be the same for everyone. Winning teams will adapt and thrive.

I think there is quite a bit of hypocrisy with a bit of arrogance liberally sprinkled in that certain teams say that unless a new team comes on board being no more than 2 seconds off the pace, they shouldn't be allowed in. It's just a ridiculous statement.
