Hi,

I am doing a little research in to the profit of F1 teams. I am trying to understand the commercial competitiveness between the teams. I am particularly interested in McLaren (McLaren Group). I found that in 2008 they made a profit of £14m and a loss in 2007 of £34m. Can anyone tell me a little bit more about the following:

1) How much did the 'Spygate' scandal affect McLaren Group's profits in 2007?
2) What profits/losses of McLaren Group in other years?

AND

3) Do all F1 teams make regularly make profits?
4) Any other number for any F1 team profit/loss?

I would also be interested in the amount of investment different teams spend on R&D.

1, they got 100m fine, but that included things like FOM money
2, I would imagine they as a group make money otherwise why would it be run?
3, nope. some are 200mph adverts for there parent company, others have struggled ie williams
4, there was a post recently about where/how the teams got money, it should not be hard to find.

Other than that, I recommend looking up stuff Chris Slyt has written. Since he wrote formula money, and is well-known for being F1's money man who knows all about team finances etc. He's also the editor of http://www.pitpass.com/ Same place that McLaren article came from.

@Jabberwocky - you said there was a recent post, I haven't been able to find it. Can you remember any keywords so I can narrow it down in the search?
