In 2010 drivers could be awarded points for pole position and the fastest lap, according to Ferrari team principal Stefano Domenicali.

The 2009 points system has already been tweaked ahead of next season, with the top ten finishers set to be rewarded as a result of the grid increasing to 26 cars.

However, it now appears that there could be further changes, with Domenicali revealing that a proposal has been made to the Sporting Working Group of the FIA to put more points on offer.

"Yes. The scoring is likely to be revised,"Domenicali told La Stampa.

"There is a proposal to reward the pole position and the fastest lap of the race," the Italian explained.

Fastest lap maybe, pole definitely not...

Whut, pole position definitely more worthy of a point than fastest lap. Fastest lap has been a tad random lately, I mean look at last years fastest laps.

A point should definitely be given to the man who sets the fastest lap time of the entire weekend. Especially with the fuel filled quali format gone. Of course, I'll be interested to see do they do anything to Q3 now.

Thats why I think fastest should recieve points, because anyone can get it. Whereas only the guys in the top cars can get pole position. Honestly I've never been a fan of points being awarded for qualifying, that should stay in nascar(at least I think they get points for qualifying  ).

Yep. Sounds good. I like :)

it should be fastest lap but not for pole. there is already an advantage in getting pole position, but fastest laps go unrewarded.

Nah, it ought to go to the Pole as well so that you get rewarded extra for the hat trick (25+1+1)

If you had asked me at the start of 2008 about a point for pole, I'd have said no, but now qualifying should be run on fumes, so everyone will have roughly the same weight. Seeing as the field was so tight last year, the idea could have merit. Fisi's pole at Spa, for example, would have been deserving of a point in this scenario.

Why do people want to see a point for pole? I don't get it. Maybe under the old quali fuel system yeah, but not now, it doesn't add any real value or add any (motivational/strategic) factors for them to consider.

As for fastest lap, i originally say maybe because i think drivers might push that little bit harder, especially towards the end of races - before, if it looked pretty set everyone would usually chill out on the engines and settle if possible, but with this potential rule, people would continue to push as much as possible - ESPECIALLY given the fuel loads in races next season! However, i am not sure if i want to see drivers purposefully pitting just for new tyres to go after the point, for me the idea of that seems a bit farcical for the top motorsport category on the planet.
