The views of 217 world championship drivers with over 9000 starts between them and over 270 victories. The top 10 was as follows :

10.G.Villenueve
9.Alonso
8.Moss
7.Lauda
6.Stewart
5.Clark
4.Prost
3.Fangio
2.Schumacher
1.Senna

Can't really see how Moss and Alonso are in there myself but there you go.

Alonso better than Piquet?

HAHAHAHAHAHAHA

Certainly says a lot for those drivers then. Also interesting that double and triple world champions aren't there, yet two drivers with no championships to their names are there.

Personally I'd have Clark at the top (but thats just me) Clark was an amazing guy, with an astonishing record. A small fact I heard was that he only ever had 3 spins in his F1 career. Impressive to say the very least.

Schumacher is really the best, with Senna second.

I think I'm missing something when it comes to Gilles Villenueve. Was he really that good? Better than Piquet, Hakkinen, G Hill etc.?

As with AS it's got a lot to do with his mythical status due to his death in my opinion.

Senna I can understand, he really was a great driver and a multiple world champion so he deserves to be on the list. The order of the top few drivers is always going to be down to personal preference but the lists usually features the same people, in whatever order. I just find it odd that people question Alonso's position and yet Gilles' place is undisputed.

I would guess it's more to do with Gilles style of driving and the fact the was a total nutter. If you raced against him it was probly a case of you could see just how quick he was.
Most of these polls are normally biased to the latest generation hense why I think Alonso is in there.I would of thought Clark would of been a bit higher myself.

- I agree with Amanda as for Gilles. If Clark died driving a F1 car, he would be the 1st.

Well they got the top one right but there were some wierd anomolies further down the list. I gues drivers will have voted for drivers who were around in their own era. Here a a few of the wierd results i noticed

Webber joint 76th while Vettel was 26th???

Massa 59th with zanardi at 57th????

Robert Kubica at43rd with Damon Hill behind him at 45th??? Oh and Jaques Villeneuve above them both at 41st :yikes:

Those were the ones that kind of jumped out at me, there were lots more

Out of interest Lewis came in 17th

Hold on, aren't you saying that RB should be higher than JB, are you?

- I agree with you when you say that drivers voted based on what they saw...
That's why we have some gaffes in this list.
For example, I'm pretty sure that plenty of people from this forum have more knowledge about F1 than Jaime Alguersuari...
