Hello,
Since I could not find any subjects about new F1 2010 cars, I deliberately created this new topic.
F1 2010 - Car designs: changes from 2009
I would like to get information about the cars that will be running the 2010 championship, what are the regulations already set by FIA (is the regulation available for downloading?), how the cars will be, and your opinion about performance, overtaking, strategies for non refueling races, etc.
As far as I now, cars will be wider so they can carry more fuel, front tires will be narrower, overall aerodynamics practically will be the same (are the double deck diffuser still be allowed?), KERS will not be used.
Thanks everybody for your attention.

Welcome to the forum :wavey: there's already a bunch of threads dedicated to the various aspects of the rule changes in 'The Pits' section of the forum, which can be found here:

Basically what you said. Very few changes compared to this year.

There are a few small aero tweaks, but nothing major or interesting. No wheel fairings for next year. As well as narrower front tyres, and no re-fuelling.

The double decker diffuser will remain as will KERS. However, it has been jointly agreed by FOTA that the teams will not use KERS.

The cars will be wider to accommodate a bigger fuel tank that is needed to last the whole race. Most races, cars will probably only stop just once for tyres, unless the tyre's are wearing away too much. Somewhere like Turkey we may see drivers stopping twice. But it will be mandatory to stop once for tyres, since drivers need to use both the soft and hard tyres once during a race. So we won't see drivers trying to do the whole race on one set of tyres.

Overtaking might be better this year. Cars will be heavier and that might cause more overtaking, since the cars will be a bit harder to manage early on and we might see more mistakes. However, less pits stops might be a problem. Also drivers have to be more careful with their tyres because they need to last longer, and meaning they could start driving less aggressively and become less likely to overtake. We'll just have to wait and see.

There is also talk about qualifying being changed. The rules where that in Q3 you had to carry the fuel you'd use in the race. Since there's no re-fuelling anymore that doesn't apply. Not sure if Q3 will be just like Q1 and Q2, or if the FIA are going to bring something new into the equation.

Also thought I'd mention races will last longer this year, since the cars will be slower during the races, adding another few minutes to each race. We seen brake problems during singapore this year, and no doubt will see several brake problems with year. There was going to be rule that would allow more durable brakes, but for whatever reason Williams blocked it.
