Less than a week after the final GP, and I'm bored already. So, I decided to have a go at ranking the current stock of F1 drivers. To be eligible for the list, they have to have driven at least one full F1 race in the 2009 season. Ranking is based upon overall skill as a driver not their 2009 performance per se.

So this is my take:

1. Alonso
2. Hamilton
3. Raikkonen
4. Massa
5. Vettel
6. Button
7. Barrichello
8. Webber
9. Kubica
10. Rosberg
11. Kovaleinen
12. Glock
13. Heidfeld
14. Buemi
15. Fisichella
16. Sutil
17. Trulli
18. Bourdais
19. Kobayashi
20. Liuzzi
21. Piquet Jr
22. Grosjean
23. Nakajima
24. Badoer

Hope I haven't missed anyone out...

Any views? Happy to be talked out of any of the positions... :D:D

I think Heidfeld would probably out-perform Heikki in a car like McLaren. Otherwise the list is good. I rank Alonso very highly, though I don't know his potential until next year when hopefully he'll have a good car. Raikkonen can be as good as long he's motivated and hungry.

There are plenty of questions which we can answer next year (If McLaren and Ferrari are strong again). Alonso vs Lewis would be fun =D. Kind of best driver who's been in the league and the best newcomer (no offense Vettel fans, I can change my mind next year)

I'd probably put Heidfeld above Kovalainen, Grosjean over Pi-crash and Badoer infront of Crashajima. At least Badoer has the excuse he hadn't raced properly in 10 years. ;):D

1. Alonso and Hamilton
3. Raikkonen
4. Massa

Now I start to struggle
5. Vettel
6. Rosberg
7. Button
8. Webber
9. Barrichello

Now I really start to struggle
10. Kubica
11. Heidfeld
....I don't know where to place the rest, expect the bottom would be

22. Piquet Jr
23. Nakajima
24. Badoer (Although I only have 2009 to judge him on so that's perhaps a little unfair)

The top 4 are the only ones I'd feel confident about.

General consensus seems to be Heidfeld higher, so how about:

1. Alonso
2. Hamilton
3. Raikkonen
4. Massa
5. Vettel
6. Button
7. Barrichello
8. Webber
9. Rosberg
10. Kubica
11. Heidfeld
12. Kovaleinen
13. Glock
14. Buemi
15. Fisichella
16. Sutil
17. Trulli
18. Bourdais
19. Kobayashi
20. Liuzzi
21. Piquet Jr
22. Grosjean
23. Nakajima
24. Badoer

Whatever you say about Piquet, he is a better driver than Grosjean. And no one's taking that number 24 from Luca! And Amanda, I'm not really sure on what basis we could justify putting Rosberg over Button, Barrichello and Webber - he has potential, sure, but he hasn't shown enough imo. I'll move him above Kubica, though, if that helps!

Doing WHAT to the drivers!!?!

For me:-
1. Kobayashi
2. Hamilton
3. Kimi

Nah sorry, here goes

1. Alonso
2. Raikkonen
3. Hamilton
4. Vettel
5. Massa
6. Button
7. Rosberg
8. Kubica
9. Webber
10. Barrichello
11. Heidfeld
12. Glock
13. Sutil
14. Fisichella
15. Trulli
16. Kovaleinen
17. Kobayashi
19. Buemi
20. Bourdais
21. Piquet Jr
22. Badoer
23. Liuzzi
24. Grosjean
25. Nakajima

Felt abit dodgy/guilty when choosing Lewis Hamilton, Webber, Barrichello, Fisi's places.
Also didn't really care too much after Kobayshi. Also feel too generous for him. I mean 2 races?!?!

What does the -san bit mean?

Ok - I think I'm going to go for Amanda's tactic and go for groups, within which people can decide the exact positioning themselves!

Group 1 - great or destined to be great
1. Alonso
2. Hamilton
3. Raikkonen
4. Massa
5. Vettel

Group 2 - very, very solid, with flashes of genius
6. Button
7. Barrichello
8. Webber
9. Rosberg
10. Kubica
11. Heidfeld

Group 3 - solid, could have a good season or two, but likely to never achieve greatness
12. Kovaleinen
13. Glock
14. Buemi
15. Fisichella
16. Sutil
17. Trulli

Group 4 - some promise
18. Bourdais
19. Kobayashi
20. Liuzzi

Group 5 - simply bad
21. Piquet Jr
22. Grosjean
23. Nakajima
24. Badoer

Everyone happy?

That's better for me, I struggle to put people into absolute positions.

He didn't drive in F1 in 2009 though...

To be honest - I agree. I'd have him in the next group down. But I got talked down - it seems he has some fans on the forum!!

But hey, if 2-3 more people agree, there'd be an argument for moving him down... :P
