Confidence.

We have all felt the confidence of our respective nations economic health slip. It appears that it is catching up with F1. More so in Japan, but Germany, and now France is teetering on the brink. Should FOTA have stuck to their guns and started a new series? I feel that the dominos are falling. I am glad that we will have new entries in formula one next season, however I am concerned about manufactures and the claims that Ferrari are making. It may all get back to normal, but my confidence is shaken for the next few years.

I thought this deserved its own thread.

Some of us on the forum predicted that if there was a breakaway series it would end up being Ferrari and McLaren as the other manufacturers fell by the wayside! I would say that Renault will be swayed by the marque being dragged through the mud in the race-fix-gate scandal, damage control by the French manufacturer perhaps?.

I think we're safe until 2012, but at that point the gates of hell may well open.

wasn't accusing you of buying into it, I was asking whether you used it ironicly cos I would've found that pretty funny.

Formula One is fine. This is only part of the constant cycle.

I agree, as there has always been threats of breakaway serious throughout Formula One's history as a modern sport. However, I do think, with the possible exception of the FISA-FOCA war, 2009 was the closest the sport has come to being divided, and that the teams' threats were serious. Ecclestone, though, is not stupid and would not allow Formula One to be torn apart, so it's not a surprise he withdrew his support from Mosley. As long as there is the idea that the sport cannot be allowed to disintegrate from the management, than I think Formula One will be fine in the future.

Nah, I only use 2012 to make fun of that hack Roland Emmerich.

Awful, awful director :banghead:

Mark Hughes has an interesting article in autosport entitled "So the mnaufacturers are bailing out of F1. Did they jump or were they pushed?"

He gives arguement on both sides commencing with "Did the FIA anticipate the car makers' exodus - or cause it."

He ends the article with a third scenario- that it could be a bit of both.I guess thats the most likely.

If you think about it we have only lost one team since the recession hit car manufacturers. Toyota; The Honda team were saved by Ross Brawn and it looks like BMW will be saved by Peter Sauber & Co.

Don't be stressing, if Renault decide to pull team backing thats fine too, they will continue to supply engines and a buyer will be found for the team.

Ford left a few years ago for economic reasons(closing a Jag plant and keeping an F1 team would be cheeky)and I call it the same recession, so I can include anyone since, such as Honda. Ford's withdrawl angered EJ causing him to also throw in the towel.
