McLaren have been linked with a sensational swoop for newly crowned World Champion Jenson Button - a move that will give the team a dream all-British line-up in 2010.

With Button's contract negotiations with Brawn GP apparently reaching an impasse, McLaren are rumoured to be ready to pounce.

According to the Daily Mail, 'McLaren and their title sponsors Vodafone, who contribute £50million a year, would welcome the tantalising line-up.

'Although Vodafone were reluctant to comment publicly, a key source close to the company said: 'Any team would like to have two world champions in their ranks.'

McLaren team principal Martin Whitmarsh refused to nip the rumours in the bud.

"We've talked to a number of drivers," he said. "It wouldn't be appropriate to say more than that. We'll hire the two best drivers available to us as we always have."

Button has already stated that he is keen to battle Lewis Hamilton for the World Championship next year saying: "If I'm in a competitive car and Lewis is in a competitive car next year, I think it will be a very exciting season for Formula One and especially the British public."

Nico Rosberg and Kimi Raikkonen are two of the other drivers who have been linked with McLaren in recent months.

Personaly i doubt it.

i'd also prefer Kimi but i'd take Jenson over Hekki.

Jenson Buttton and Kimi Raikkonen at McLaren please, no need for Hamilton he just brings shame to the team :D

Nah seriously I doubt this will happen and I also just cant picture Button in a McLaren, the drive will probably go to Kimi Raikkonen but if he decides hes had enough, I would put my hand on Rosberg then after him Kovaleinenn since I cant really see any options after him, really except possibly Timo Glock ( wild guess ).

I really think Button is happy at Brawn but I doubt they will be as strong in 2010 as in 2009 and I think Jenson knows this and is still hungry for more WCs so maybe he will just look at moving.

Nico Rosberg I know earlier on in the season was looking for a drive at McLaren at 2010 ( but then again he was also looking at BMW, Brawn and Toyota ) but I still thinkfor some reason it will be Kimi who gets the drive and Rosberg goes to Brawn.

Kimi Raikkonen I think will get the drive for 2010 since he knows the team the best and is happy at McLaren and I think the team want him back again as well but out of the 3 drivers listed I think he will peform the worst. I know he said if he was in a winning car he would feel competitive again but lets be realistic after winning the 2007 WC, only a year later he lost motivation in the best car on the track, he was failing while his teammate was flying. I think he feels his ultimate goal to win an F1 WC has been achieved and now he just doesnt care, I mean pre-2007 nhe never lost motivation after losing the 2003 championship and the 2005 championship and the struggles of 2006, he kept on pushing until he had achieved his ultimate desire in 2007 but now he has lost his desire but if he still had it, I reckon he could have been a title contender last year and probably next year as well.

If McLaren offered Jenson the second seat at McLaren next season he would be mad not to take it.

I would like to see that, but not as much as I would like to see Kimi in a McLaren again.

Absolutely, I cannot agree more to the above statement.

Imagine this:
Hamilton/ Button -> One tyre killer , One tyre massager

Alonso/ Massa ->"Best friends" in the paddock

Mclaren Vs Ferrari

Its history in the making!!

Team with totally different drivers is good or bad?

Can't see it happening and I wouldn't want to see it either (although it would be amusing to see Button trying to keep up with Hamilton). McLaren need the best drivers in their cars next year if they're going to stand a chance against Ferrari, Kimi is a far better choice for that imo.

I think this is a PR stunt to either get Brawn to offer Button a contract asap, or to get Raikkonen to make a decision on any potential offer from McLaren (pretty sure they'd have made one by now...).

I disagree entirely. Button would apply a lot of pressure on Hamilton if the two were team mates.

I think that Jenson would be better staying at Brawn for at least one more season as they did deliver him a world championship and effectively rescued him from the scrapheap after the demise of Honda. No-one wanted him before the start of this season including McLaren despite having the massive under-performer Heikki Kovalainen in their team.

I think Jenson's best chance for retaining the title is Brawn as the Brackley based team will more than likely build a team around him!

You obviously rate his talent more highly than I do. Personally, I don't think Button is anywhere near as good a driver as either Raikkonen or Hamilton.

I agree that Button isn't as good as Hamilton, Alonso and Raikkonen. But he's not a million miles off either. Plus his driving style is so different, it's difficult to compare like-with-like.

I'm not even comparing Jenson & Hamilton. I'm saying Jenson will put pressure on Hamilton. Similar to Webber putting pressure on Vettel.

Ahh, in that case I still disagree. Somehow I doubt that Hamilton will feel much pressure from Button, I think it's more likely to work the other way round.
