I split the Abu Dhabi thread to salvage a good topic. Here's the rest of it, but don't bother posting on it as it is locked :irked:

I for one find it rather amusing that such disregard toward's a track can be given without ever witnessing a race at said track.

I agree with MF, to me it seems like a cross between Bahrain and Singapore, i'm also sick of hearing how tracks should be 'good for overtaking', only to fail miserably at doing so. Of course, i hope to be proven wrong, but i can't say i hold out much hope for this track providing a great race...

You sound like you're having a bad day, Tex. Cheer up!

I think the reason for the disgust is because circuits like Magny-Cours, Gilles Villeneuve, Inianappolis, Silverstone etc, have been axed in recent years in favour of the new (street) circuits. (I've incorrectly been thinking that the Yas Marina circuit was a street circuit). We have Korea and Russia on the way - so which 2 circuits will be axed? More European ones? I think so.

I reckon that it will be Lewis Hamilton P1 and Vettel P2. It will be interesting to watch, but I am not looking forward to it as much as I look forward to most GPs.

No I was not having a bad day, well not very bad but that is another story, but I do appreciate your concern :hehe: . I just think that atleast one race should be held before opinion's, good or bad, are made about the track. Also I was in no way disregarding McLaren Fan's opinion either as I respect Chris and his opinion's a great deal.

To address your concern's about losing other great and/or historic track's I'm in 100% agreement with you.

It's sad to see tracks like Spa Francorchamps on the chopping block but F1 is a business first and foremost; which is a sad state of affairs but that was always going to be the case after the FIA sold the commercial rights to Bernie and later CVC. So F1 will follow the money and the money right now is in the oil rich countries. Bernie has no interest in what's best for Formula 1; he's only interested in lining his own pockets. That has been proven by the extortionate hosting fees pricing the traditional circuits off the calendar!

I don't believe the modern circuits are bad per se, even the traditional circuits where overtaking was prevalent are now suffering from processional racing which leaves modern F1 car design to take the blame for the lack of on track action, the smaller rear wing as done jack sh*t to improve overtaking. I think F1 aero needs to take a step backwards to when overtaking was prevalent. Right now I feel that all 20 drivers might as well get on a tour bus and complete 70 laps waving to crowd, it's about the same level of excitement. Sure the strategy element is interesting to watch but personally I want to see overtaking on the track, not in the pit lane as dictated by strategy!

I can say whatever the hell I want to Gregg, as long as it's not offensive. I won't bow to fascism and keep my mouth shut or lie. The fact is I have become pretty disenchanted with Formula One in recent years for several reasons, and continuously seeing circuits which have no history and tradition, character or difficulty, are similar in layout, and have empty grandstands filling up the calendar at the expense of other circuits which have all or most of those qualities is one of them. If people enjoy watching crap races, fine. I expect a little more for the time and money I invest in Formula One.

Dude you need to seriously chillout and it seem's that you have conviently overlooked my reply in which I said "Also I was in no way disregarding McLaren Fan's opinion either as I respect Chris and his opinion's a great deal". If you did read that part yet still felt compelled to act like a child then I have nothing else to say to you.

Also if your so disenchanted with F1 then why do you constantly feel compelled to disgrace this forum with your opinion and then get all huffy when someone disagree's with you , the downfall of this forum imo?

I have said my peace but please feel free to argue with yourself, hope it work's out for ya  .

No, it's always the same with you nowadays. You make a snide comment, then follow it up with some sweet talk, saying you really didn't mean it.

And, for the record, I am not a pessimist. I'm sure Abu Dhabi will have great facilities and the whole thing will pass off without too many issues, but that's not what I am looking for. When I consider what my favourite tracks are, the size of the VIP room is not terribly high up on my list of criteria.

Hey, I just cast my honest opinion, which is what you tend to do a discussion forum. It was Gregg who started getting narky.
