A friend of mine lost her mum last night in an accident in which a Lithuanian man who was drunk off his head run over a group she was in killing 2 and seriously injuring 3.

You may have seen the story on the news today. What gets me is this man is likely only to get about 8 years inside as thats the average sentencing for death by dangerous driving.

It really does make me angry as the selfish man has destroyed a number of life's and his going to get such a pathetic sentence :(

Im sorry to hear about your friends mum :(

The law in this country is hideous!!!

I was watching something the other day on the BBC, a gasman who wasnt even qualified went to a house and checked their gas etc etc, but he did something and carbon-monoxide was leaking into the house, obviously you cant see it or smell it.

Anyways, the 14 year old girl who lived in the house with her mum died, her mum came home one day after work and found her dead from the poisoning.

And all the man got for manslaughter for killing that girl was TWO YEARS!!! and he'd be out in a year for good behaviour! guaranteed!!

Made me so angry!

one time i was driving when tired that was bad enough,

id never drive like that, i dont like being in control when driving, plus its likley ur gonna kill someone rather than urself, i couldnt live with that

this countries laws are upside down, and its almost impossible to change it cause of the bureaucracy, it disgusts me, even in the job i do the laws that affect it disgust me, which i wont get into

sorry for your loss :(

Such terrible news, my sympathies to you, your friend and her family.

Driving under the influence is unforgivable and should be punished far more severely than it is, maybe then people would think twice before getting behind the wheel.

Terrible news Irons sorry for your friends mum.

I the law should be such that you should not have even one drink then drive.

There is no excuse for it at all, helpfully that person will get put away for a long time.

my mate recently got hit by a drunk arabic man with no licence or insurance. My mate who was on a motorbike at the time has since had spent 2 weeks in a drug induced coma while they tried to save on arm and leg. he has lost his leg from the knee down and has no control over his left hand. pelvis was smashed to bits.... he was/is in a real bad shape 4 months later.

Drink drivers deserve to get eaten alive by rats

Seems the backward type nations like Iran etc have draconian penalties for that and the "civilized" west is pretty lax. It's constantly the subject of political questioning, and they're always talking about increasing penalties, but it's always incremental. We have only in the last several years have had a graduated licencing structure for the young, which is an effort in the area of prevention, but I think too many rich people like to drive drunk to allow really meaningful penalties.
