Montoya reveals phone call from Williams
Racing series F1
Date 2009-08-05

By Motorsport.com/GMM

Juan Pablo Montoya has revealed that he received a "special" phone call this week.

"Frank Williams called me this morning to say hi," the Colombian, who made his Formula One debut for Sir Williams' British team in 2001, wrote on his Twitter page.

Now 33, Montoya races in NASCAR, after switching in 2006 mid-way through an acrimonious second season with McLaren.

He indicated his best memories of Formula One were with Williams.

Referring to his phone call, Montoya added: "It was very special talking to him again. He is a very nice guy ... and no, I'm not going (back) to F1."

Now Montoya may have said "no", but if Sir Frank is trying to bring him back to F1, remember that he can be very persuasive. He managed to tempt Nigel Mansell out of retirement at the end of the 1990 season and brought him back to Williams, and then within 2 years he finally became Champion.

But if he does come back, I'm sure Sir Frank will tell him to get in shape. :hehe:

That would be awesome. Montoya in a Williams. I think it'd be a good pairing (Nico and Juan Pablo), better than Juan Pablo and Ralf. But I don't think it would happen. Could you imagine Racechick's reaction if it did?! :hehe:

Personally I don't want JPM back in F1; and I believe that Montoya is happy in NASCAR so why would he leave and the Williams isn't the car it was in 1996/97.

Pfft, Ralf won more races than him for Williams.

He never even drove for them in 1996/1997. I wish he did though, because I hated JV.

The FW31 is one of the best cars this year, and it is now faster than the Brawn. Hopefully the FW32 will be even better. The team have come a long way from the aero-inneficient cars of the past few years.

I know. But I like Nico more than Ralf. :)

Yeah. Hopefully they will adapt best to the better-balanced slicks and lack of refuelling next year. :)

I remember when the 79 Williams got better and better and the next year they dominated. We may see the 1st World Championship winning father and Son to drive for the same team. Plus if it wasn't for a poorly given penalty and an engine faliure in the last 2 races of 2003 JPM may have been champion. Even though he was a big rival of Schumacher who I supported I liked his never say die attitude. He would never settle for 8 points like your Buttons, Webbers, Hamiltons may do he would always go for the 10 and from his 3rd race in Brazil 2001 he has never been scared to race the big guns. How many other drivers would dare overtake Michael Schumacher round the outside for the lead of the race. I think if Montoya was to return to F1 it would get people back watching it as he was exciting to watch like Hamilton, Schumacher, Alonso etc are.
