From F1 Live:

Williams has refused to rule out the possibility the team might overlook the self-imposed Formula One Teams' Association ban next year and race KERS.

The manufacturer-dominated alliance has agreed not to fit the systems to their cars next year. However that is just a separate gentleman's agreement, as the regulations continue to permit its use next year.

Williams has so far never raced with KERS, but has been steadily developing an unique flywheel-based system this year.

When asked if it will be debuted in 2010, a spokesman for the Grove-based team answered: "We can't confirm precise intentions as we are still developing our KERS system."

He made clear the team, suspended from the association for breaking ranks and signing up for the 2010 world championship amid the recent FIA war, is not bound by the FOTA agreement.

"We are not members of FOTA and thus strictly are not bound by their decisions," said the Williams spokesman. "Further, the Formula One technical regulations require unanimity if they are to be changed.

"All of that said, we naturally work closely with all the teams in the sport to contribute to the best regulatory environment for F1.

"I'd also be bound to mention that some FOTA members, notably Mercedes, look like they are reviewing their KERS policy."

Your opinions, people. Are Williams' intentions honest, or are they deliberately trying to be awkward?

I can see this KERS ban being scrapped then i mean Williams could sell it to the new teams, or the new teams could deveop there own.

watch the FIA go and say its a must for 2010

I would like to see Williams being given the chance to use their unique KERS flywheel system, they have plans to sell it to bus and train companies as well. They spent the least out of all teams on the system, but having it being abandoned would be a pure waste of money.

Plus it might help Nakajima get his act together and help Williams in the fight for 3rd in the constructors title.

Well, there's always Monza

Surely KERS will be massive at Monza. Especially off the line. That run to the first corner is the longest in F1 I believe. The KERS cars will slingshot into turn 1. We seen Kimi jump from 7th to 4th down the short straight at Hungary. No doubt, in Monza any car further up than 8th, has the chance to lead into turn 1.

It would be worth an teams while, to use KERS at Monza.

Yeah!

its also quite good how quickly SF sorted there KERS issues out it was rubbish at the start of the year but now its almost as good as the Mclaren System.

Williams being booted out of FOTA was always going to come back to bite the teams association in the backside! If Williams and McLaren + the new teams run KERS next year; we'll almost certainly see the KERS ban being abandoned by all teams especially now the technology is reaching maturation. As for Williams intentions, it seems pretty clear by what the statement says "we are not bound by FOTA agreements so we'll do what we want within the official FIA rulebook" - to which I say FAIR ENOUGH!

Williams: the immovable object.

Until Ecclestone closes his wallet.

I want to see Williams use this flywheel system, as it is completely different to everyone else and it will be good to see how it goes, and if it can bring benefit to normal day to day life, of normal Tom, Dicks, and Harrys then happy days.

Williams are the pain in FOTA's arse at the moment! :banghead:

Well consider yourself lucky the FIA don't help them like they used to do with Ferrari, we could do without the FIA renaming itself WIA. :hehe:

It has become quite clear that KERS has in fact got several advantages, and there's absolutely no reason why they should stop developing it with a view to racing it this season, it must be frustating for every non KERS guy just to get trounced off the line by the mere push of a button. FOTA are irrelevant here anyway, seeing as they suspended Williams. They have no say over what they do at the moment. Spending a lot of money on continuing development of KERS is also a strange way to just be 'awkward'.
