Whats everyones thoughts on no mid race refuelling next year? Good or bad?

It will test some of the drivers' racecraft, which is a welcome addition, but it does remove some of the teamwork from the sport, as the importance of the pit crews will be reduced.

For me, though, the idea in itself is pointless, for similar reasons to KERS. If Formula One wants to go green, then things such as KERS, no in-race refuelling, etc have to be done in conjunction with other measures.

No re-fuelling is not green :confused: Its more a cost capping thing apparently. They still use the same amount of fuel for every race.

Anyways, I'll pass judgement whenever I see it all in action. It could work well, or it could work against F1, in the sense that it'll ruin pit strategies. Drivers still have to use both sets of tyres during a race. But does that mean, 1 stop, or 2 stops. We'll just have to wait and see.

Yeah Formula One doesn't have any clear path laid out.
They just keep alternating between cost cutting and making the sport more green.

Anyways, I'll pass judgement whenever I see it all in action. It could work well, or it could work against F1, in the sense that it'll ruin pit strategies. Drivers still have to use both sets of tyres during a race. But does that mean, 1 stop, or 2 stops. We'll just have to wait and see.


The incentive is there to tweak the engines (or promote fuel saving drive styles) so that the cars won't have to be fueled up as much, which would be a competitive advantage and at the same time 'greener'.

I think people who have grown up only knowing pit stops will find it hard to fathom but there once was a time where there was no refueling
But i personally think they shouldnt have pit stops at all, and make a Grand Prix race live up to its name... a Great Race rather than 3 sprint races in one!

I agree with you on that. I want pit stops to remain for tyre changes, but that is all!

Hmm, but does the engine freeze not effect that idea.

Good move. Should definitely add to the on track action if drivers know they can't wait for the pit stops.

Could be some pretty exciting fresh rubber vs old rubber in the final few laps.

Nope - you can run the engine leaner or have the driver manage his fuel consumption.

Isn't it twice as unsafe to have double, or more, fuel load on board? I realize the fuel cells are incredibly strong and the chance of a leak or spill during an accident is low, but sooner or later the odds have to catch up and there will be a fiery crash with gas going up in flames.

I do kind of like the idea as far as knowing the weight of the car and how it can be driven will change more as the fuel load burns off.

I doubt and hope that the starting weight of the cars won't be published with the refueling ban in place.
