Well today I had one of the most perfect days to date. I got up at half 8 this morning to glorious sunshine and rang the boys to organise a day shredding up the hills of Wales on the bikes. Come 10am I'd had my BLT and 11 of us were assembled for a hard days riding . . . time to set off for Lake Vyrnwy; If anyone caught spring watch on the BBC over the last week or so, you'll know how beautiful it is! Here are some archive photos.

So after a half hour drive and some serious off-roading were at the top off a secret and seriously tough downhill track . . . nicknamed "The Wall". Time to don some body armour and a helmet, focus your thoughts and point the bike at the start. One pedal stroke and your straight into an 80degree drop into a tight right hander, a few more pedals and it's onto the wall it's self. The wall literally is a wall . . . a 300 year old stone wall thats collapsed with age. Your riding 100m at least on sharp, loose and BIG rocks that move under your wheels . . . this is unpredictable and with no margin for error! After this it's a narrow single track winding down the hill, just beware of hidden tree stumps, they are harder than you are. Finally it's a drop to pass across the fire-road, part one over.

The second half of the track is pure forest madness. Insanely steep, with loose soil, huge HUGE drops and plenty of trees to smash into if you put a wheel wrong, this is the most technical riding I've ever come across.

And then it's out of the forest and all over . . . time for the heart to restart and to take a few deep breaths. You've made it and your still in one piece.

After a few mins of chatting about how insane the track is, jake turns up in the Hilux and it's time to load up and got back to the top to do it all again.

This continued until 6pm with people taking it in turn to be the driver until we just couldn't take any more! With crashes and bike failures adding up we decided to load up and head to the pub. A couple of beers, a curry and a lot of laughs later, here I am now telling you all about my day. I'm aching all over, covered in bruises and have been bitten to hell by midges, but I couldn't be happier.

Spending the day with your best mates, doing a sport you all love, in the most idyllic setting imaginable; and then off for a beer and a curry . . . . could life get any better? Honestly, could it?!

Anyway thanks for reading this, and I hope you had a cracking weekend too :D

Beautiful day, Shame. My class of a beautiful day is, Wake up at 10m, watch tv, get a good cuppa. Watch some sports, take a walk in the country side. Sit in a pub that's in little village then just talk by the lake until night time :)

I'm going Catalunya in 9 weeks :woohoo: so I'll be in the Mediterranean :D i bet laying on the beach till late in the morning will be awesome :D

Why dont you start your own thread about 'your day' instead of whoring welshies? :irked::thumbdown:

Cool stuff Welshie, is there anywhere else in the world where placenames don't have vowels? :p

I'd love to give it a go, my brother in law and nephew go to glentress a lot so might go along sometime but i'll need to get a more suitable bike.

Yes it is based on opinion's and input about welshie experience NOT yours or what you are doing or will be doing. This topic is about him and his biking trip and nothing more  .
