This made me laugh a little, but I would have probably said the same thing in his position.

Lewis Hamilton has revealed that he felt like a volcano set to erupt when he discovered his new McLaren was not a race winner.

The 24-year-old became the sport's youngest-ever title winner last year, but even team figures now agree that the MP4-23's successor is not a tool with which the Briton can defend his championship crown.

"After the first three races I was still extremely annoyed," Hamilton said in an interview with Germany's Bild newspaper.

He was speaking from Stuttgart, where the title-winning MP4-23 was added to Mercedes-Benz's car museum.

He said he only accepted one month ago that his current MP4-24 is never likely to win a race.

"Your expectations are so high and yet no matter what you do you cannot fulfil them. The disappointment was enormous; I could have exploded, like a volcano, but I had to leave it inside and it ate away at me," the McLaren driver said.

Hamilton said he let his expectations drop at the Spanish Grand Prix and "since then I have relaxed a bit."

"I have a new goal," he revealed. "There are ten races left, and at some point I want to challenge Jenson Button. I want to beat him or at least have one podium place, and then for me my season would be saved."

When asked what he would do if he was able to design his own car, Hamilton said: "I would take the Brawn - it already has the super Mercedes engine - I would add our KERS, and then spray the thing silver!"

Good to see him a bit more relaxed, it's the first time in his f1 career when he's not been under the pressure of fighting for the championship and he's getting the experience of being further down the grid that so many said he lacked from the start. When he gets the car He'll come back stronger than ever.
And yes it'd be great to see him up against Button at least once before the end of the season.

The only times we're going to see that this season will be on the tracks when Lewis or Martin Whitmarsh say "This track should suit our car."

Ahh, smug mode. :)

My guess for that would be Monza, on paper it's McLaren's best suited track...

And just which track is that gonna be?

Something Eddie Jordan said after the Turkish gp was that Mclaren has another car waiting in the wings. At the start of the season Mclaren were saying they might run two different cars this season, one with KERS and one without, could that be what Eddie was talking about? Even if not, will the teams currently using KERS dump it for the rest of the season now?

Personally I'm quite looking forward to Monza. Should be one hell of an unpredictable race. :D

Right now its everyone's goal to beat Button at least once, even his team mates. So far only Vettel and Webber have managed to do so. What we need is another wet race. Some unpredictability please.

How many teams mates does he have?

No way - if Mclaren had another car that they even suspected could be faster than the current one then they would have wheeled it out ages ago!

Silverstone and Nurburgring next... decent potential for rain at either of those tracks!

oddly enough at the start of the season lewis wasnt that far off the pace of the front runners, i know he wasnt as quick as the front runners but he was still scoring every race, recently the car seems to have got worse by a pretty big margin, what ever upgrades Mclaren have tried so far have if anything slowed the car down

I agree, listening to Lewis after Quali talking to the press he said "Welcome to my world". He's accepted with good grace that he's heading nowhere this season. Both Eddie and DC said at Turkey that the Mp24 is a dog of a car. At least Ferrari have a better car and I expect them to be challenging even more now and wish them good luck. For me the season is now so predictable and Brawn's dominance from the very start of the season has made the championship tedious and boring. If Rubens hadn't have fooked up at the start I am sure it would have been another Brawn 1-2. The only saving grace will be Sebastian and Mark to keep challenging, but I fear that won't be happening too often
